When it comes to health insurance, it is only natural to have questions. But buying a policy without getting these questions answered, that’s problematic. It could lead to major disappointments later on in life, especially during the claim process. Keeping this in mind, we have put together a two-part blog series that will answer the most frequently asked questions about health insurance. Read on!

Which is the best health insurance policy in India?

This is probably the most common question people have when attempting to buy a health insurance policy. However, there is no straightforward answer to this question. This is because we are all different from each other, and our needs vary significantly. A plan that suits you might not suit someone else and vice versa. So, instead of seeking answers (in this case, opinions) to this question, you’d rather figure out what your needs are and find a plan to match. Today, insuretech companies offer customisable, a-la-carte insurance plans that can be tailored to fit your needs.

Is my corporate health insurance enough?

Today, quite a few companies provide their employees with health insurance benefits. This leads to one big question — do I need a separate policy or is my corporate insurance enough? Well, the answer is simple — you do need an independent health insurance policy even if you have a corporate policy. There are several reasons for this. To begin with, the plan might not provide the coverage you need. Also, corporate protection ends the moments you quit the job. Last, buying an independent policy will become expensive and difficult after retirement.

Is my insurance policy valid across India?

Yes, most health insurance plans do provide coverage across the country. However, it makes sense to confirm this aspect before you buy the plan. Some leading health insurance providers also offer emergency worldwide hospitilsation as an added benefit. This ensures you do not have to worry about healthcare expenses in a foreign land in the event of an emergency such as a life-threatening illness.

Can I have two health insurance policies?

Yes, you can have two insurance plans. If you exhaust the sum insured of one policy, you can use the second policy to cover your costs. In this regard, you can buy two plans from the same company or go with different insurance companies as well.

Does health insurance cover only hospitalisation costs?

No, health insurance plans are designed to give you comprehensive protection from medical expenses. Besides hospitalisation costs, a good plan will also cover pre- and post-hospitalisation expenses (doctor’s consultations, tests, medicines) outpatient expenses, ambulance charges and much more!

These were five of the most commonly asked questions about health insurance. We hope these answers have been helpful to you. If you didn’t find your question here, stay tuned for our next article, it will go over some more common health insurance queries! Until then, good luck and take care!
